Sailing to Agioi Theodoroi: The €75 Small-Group Yacht, Where It Really Starts and How It Compares
Updated October 8, 2026 · 5 min read
The short answer: the small-group sailing day to Agioi Theodoroi is a good choice at €75 if you want a quiet boat, a proper lunch and three hours around the island, with 4.8 stars from 562 reviews. But it does not leave from Chania, and it is not for everyone. The booking page excludes pregnant women, wheelchair users and people prone to seasickness.
Where it starts
The title says Chania, the meeting point does not. The small-group sailing cruise to Agioi Theodoroi with a meal meets at the bus stop of Kolymvari port, west of the city, and you should be there at least 15 minutes before departure. The page says there is parking right at the dock. The itinerary shown on the page starts with an hour in a van, which applies if you choose a pickup option; it then lists a 15-minute safety briefing, an hour of sailing, three hours around the island and an hour back, followed by the van again. Drop-off options include Platanias and the Kolymbari bus stop for the bus to Chania.
If you are staying in Chania town without a car, choose the pickup option when you book. If you would rather drive yourself, you can compare rental cars for Chania before you decide, and decide where you will park.
What is on board
It is a sailing yacht with a maximum of 14 guests, which the operator contrasts with larger, more crowded boats. The page lists a certified captain and crew, life jackets, snorkelling, fishing and stand-up paddleboard equipment, towels and music. Lunch is a Mediterranean meal: shrimp linguine and mushroom risotto with truffle oil, a Greek salad, a green salad and Cretan starters such as tzatziki and olive paste. Drinks are unlimited: wine, beer, soft drinks, iced tea and water. The page lists towels among the inclusions and also asks you to bring one, so ask the operator.
One traveller summary on the page notes that some would like more time actually under sail and less under engine. If sailing itself is the point, bear that in mind.
What you can and cannot do at the island
Agioi Theodoroi is a protected islet and the home of the Cretan wild goat, the kri-kri. Tourism sources say landing is not allowed, so the swimming and snorkelling happen from the boat while it is anchored in a bay. That matches how the page describes the day.
Rules you should know before booking
- ID. Every passenger must give their full name, passport or ID number, date of birth, nationality and gender when booking. The page says the data is shared only with the Port Authority.
- Weather. The cruise can be moved to a sheltered bay or cancelled in poor weather; the page says you would be offered a new date or a full refund.
- Not suitable. Pregnant women, wheelchair users, people prone to seasickness.
- Not allowed. Non-folding wheelchairs and strollers, mobility scooters, large luggage, shoes indoors and nudity.
How it compares
The boat cruise to Agioi Theodoroi and Lazaretta Island is €38 for 4.5 hours, with 4.9 stars from 823 reviews, and leaves from the old port in Chania. It costs about half as much, starts in town, and puts the history of the old port first.
Two catamarans also leave from the Venetian harbour. The luxury sunset catamaran cruise with Prosecco is €74.80 for 3.5 to 4.5 hours, with 4.9 stars from 399 reviews; it includes Prosecco, sushi, fruit and an open bar. The all-inclusive catamaran trip is €126.15 for 6.5 hours, with 4.6 stars from 94 reviews, and adds brunch and lunch. Both list pregnant women as not suitable. Both say you meet the crew on board at Chania port.

Our pick
Book the €75 yacht if you want a small group and a long swim and are happy to travel to Kolymvari or take the pickup. Take the €38 cruise if you want the cheapest way to the island straight from the old port. For a sunset, the catamaran is the better evening. Our guide to boat trips from Chania’s old port compares the shorter options, and the boat trips page lists them all.
